Demand for Anti-Racial Discrimination Bill



 
HNS/IMPHAL, Feb 15: Decrying increasing violent activities including rape and murder committed against the people from north east States at different parts of the country, a sit-in-protest demonstration was staged under the aegis of Students' Christian Movement of India(NEI) in front of Thangkhul Church, Chingmeirong here today.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, Shalom L Ralsun, secretary of Students Movement of India, North East said north eastern people are also just like any other Indian residing in different parts of the country and have equal rights. But they are being targeted because of their different look, food habit and lifestyle.
He demanded an Anti-Racial Discrimination Bill be passed by the Central Government at the earliest for ensuring protection to the north eastern people residing in different parts of the country.
Several placards inscribed with slogans like, 'We Want Peace, We Want Truth', 'We Condemn Discrimination', 'Pass Anti-Racial Discrimination Bill' etc were used during the protest demonstration.







SCMI(NEI) Regional Fellowship Programme 2014









On 14th February, 2014 SCMI (NEI) conducted its Regional Fellowship Programme at Trulock Theological Seminary & Restoration Theological College on the topic “Human Right and immigration issue in NEI” where 21 fellowship holder and mentor. We invited Manipur Theological College and Imphal Christian Church youth member to be a part of the programme.
The welcome function was addressed by Dr. S Chongloi (Vice Principal TTS and Principal RTC and a senior Advisor of the Unit) followed by a paper presentation from Mr. Kamkhomang Khongsai (Mth Old testament) on the topic ‘Human Right In North East India (Special focus on AFSPA) moderated by Mr. Thangboi Mate , Panelist: Dr. H Chongloi-  the resource person highlighted the importance of life which is God valuable gift to mankind and also tried to uphold the true spirit of human right based on the Bibilical perspective, tribal  legalistic ethic based on KUKI tribe “ Bultuhna”
In the evening, we have a time ice breaking session led by Mr. Kenyuloe from Mt. TTC (Zunpha Unit) followed by sharing from Mr. Shanbok Warkhynllew (Chairperson SCMI NEI) about ‘who is God, and ‘How God speak in our context’
On 15th February,2014 Pr. Naren Pegu (Dhemaji Town SCMI Unit Senior Advisor ) lead the Bible study and devotion on the topic Importance of Life and how life is temporary’
2nd paper presentation was stared as soon as the bible study programme on the topic ‘ Immigration Problem in NEI with special reference to Maipur’ by Mr. Thangkholet Khongsai Mth (Social Analysis) moderator: Mr. Seipa Mate Panelist Mr. Jonah Khongsai. From the paper the resource person highlight the burning issue of immigration in various parts of North East, type of immigration and its impact. He also reassuring for re-implementation of ILP in Manipur, the role of Government as well as civil society in dealing with the situation, the role of politician toward illegal cross border immigration we also discussed.
During the programme a sit-in-protest was held to create awareness against any racial, rape, assault of the North east people and also show our solidarity to the entire victim and their family especially toward the family of Nido Tania. We demand for anti racial discrimination bill and special protection.
Its was followed by a Career Guidance for the fellowship holder and Change maker programme which was done by Mr. Shalom L Ralsun (Programme Secretary SCMI NEI Zone I)
The regional fellowship programme was concluded with a cultural evening ,where we are favor with special item / song from South Korea by Bro. Chung Chae Hun (Methodist Church Korea) , Tripura dance, Dehemaji song,  Tinsukia song and dance, Nagaland song and dance, Manipur song, ICC children dance, Little angles and from our chairperson Mr. Shanbok Reprsenting mehgalaya. The programme was led by Mr. A W Rani (Lecturer Synod College Shillong) followed by vote of thanks from Mr. Thangjakhup Hangsing (Former Adviser TTS & RTC Unit)

International Women’s Day





SCM-Mt. Terogvu College Unit observed International Women’s Day on 8 March 2014 at CRBC Mission Centre (Zunpha).  Mr. Giner Thapa (Mt.TTC unit President ) chaired the programme. The programme started with a mass prayer. Welcome speech was said by Mrs. Khontele, Seb Staff advisor Scm unit which was followed by a very special song by Ms. Ahyule Tep and friends. After that Ms. Akumla P/Secretary appreciated the unit for being actively involved and also encouraged the community to take SCM not just a mere participation but also as a momentum in bringing a change.
Then we got to witness a short skit from Mr. Kenyulo and friend. We were enlightened with another special song by Zunpha Women. Following was a scripture reading by Mr. Brikhudhar from Gal 3:28. The message was shared by Mrs. Likhum, She began with a brief history of International Women’s day. She encouraged all the women to appreciate even those little gifts that God had given and to use those gifts to build a better society. In conclusion, she also challenged all the participants to equally participate in decision making and social transformation.
Further Mr. Athriba Sangtam (Academic Dean) gave vote of thanks. The programme concluded with a song “Lord, dismiss us with thy blessing” and Benediction. And after the programme there was a volley ball match between Zunpha women and hosteller girls.

Youth in solidarity”






SCMI- NEI organised a youth seminar on the theme “Youth in solidarity” on 29th December 2013 at Tuensang Town Baptist Lashong (Church). Altogether 84 youths participated in the seminar.
Mr. Ngaku from ETC Jorhat unit chaired the programme .The programme started with praise and worship led by the TTBL Worship team. Miss Akumla Programme secretary gave the welcome address and a short Introduction about SCMI. Mr. Along Ao enlighten the participants with a special songs. A paper was presented by Miss Mary Chang from Bishop’s College, Hoogly on the theme “Youth in Solidarity”. Taking stand from the biblical passage, she spoke on how a youth can share their solidarity with the people suppressed by the elite society, people such as Dalits, women and people with disabilities. The programme concluded after a group discussion.
